Rose of Sharon

🌿 Description

Rose of Sharon is one of the first plants I decided to add to my pollinator garden.

These actually came from my mom’s garden in Pennsylvania, which makes them a little more meaningful to me than just something I picked up locally.

What’s been really interesting is watching how well they’ve adapted. They’ve already handled extreme cold and heat here in Florida and are still going strong.

It’s one of those plants that feels both personal and resilient at the same time.

Rose of Sharon
Sun

☀️ Care

From what I’ve seen so far, this is a pretty tough, low-maintenance plant.

  • does well in full sun
  • handles heat without much issue
  • has already survived both cold snaps and intense Florida heat
  • doesn’t need constant attention
  • benefits from well-draining soil

Once established, it really seems to take care of itself.

Bees

🌱 Uses

This is where Rose of Sharon really stands out for me.

  • attracts bees 🐝
  • attracts butterflies 🦋
  • produces consistent blooms
  • helps bring life and movement into the garden

It’s one of the foundational plants for building out a pollinator-friendly space
